Why did you choose this course?

I chose the MA Education at the University of Derby Online Learning as it offered the perfect mix between study plan, content and flexibility.

What attracted you to online learning?

I was attracted to online learning due to the flexibility to study at my own pace and in my own time. My job requires me to be very flexible. Plans can change at a moment's notice and I needed a course that understood the demands of working while studying. This course offered me exactly that, while still covering the content that was both relevant to my job and to my future career.

Why did you choose the University of Derby Online Learning?

I felt incredibly lucky to find this course. I knew that I wanted to get an MA Education, and researched a few universities in the UK and US. This course matched my needs perfectly.

What were your goals and aspirations when starting your course? Have they changed during study?

I wanted two things: more in-depth knowledge, and broader knowledge of my field. This course allowed me to specialize in teaching English, but also gave me the opportunity to study educational management, strategy, change management and much more that has been invaluable for me.

How did you balance your study around professional/personal commitments?

I was very strict with myself at first until I established a rhythm. Luckily I had the full support of my company, who allowed flexibility with my schedule in order to study. As I got into the routine, it became easier to balance these commitments (though it still requires discipline). As I was learning all the time and actually enjoying participating in the course, this didn't prove to be too difficult.

How would you describe your online learning experience at Derby? What did you find particularly beneficial?

I really enjoyed the experience overall. It was a good balance between theory and practical elements. I found I was able to apply what I was learning as I was studying within my job.

What was your most memorable moment during your time at Derby?

Being in Derby for the first time - for my graduation ceremony - and putting a face to all the names who had been helping me through the previous three years of my degree.

How has your qualification helped your career? Has the knowledge you have acquired, complimented previous work experience in any way?

As well as helping me as I went, this qualification has opened up whole new possibilities and opportunities in my career.
