Graduated with an online Nursing Studies BSc (Hons)
My name is Rhoda Moramba and I am a nursing midwife from Kenya. I chose to study the Nursing BSc (Hons) Top-Up degree with the University of Derby Online Learning to top up my nursing diploma to degree level. I was attracted to online learning as it offered me a flexible learning pace irrelevant of place and time.
My goal was to update my professional skills to be able to work safely and effectively. I also wanted to gain a recognisable degree to enable me to pursue further academic study.
Balancing my study around professional and personal commitments was very challenging. I had to learn to plan ahead, stay disciplined and diligently follow plans and manage my time effectively. As a result, I did have to sacrifice some of my social plans to prioritise study time.
Throughout my course I found that the learning content, reading lists, video lecture recordings and group discussions using moderated questions were very helpful. The inclusion of personal development skills as part of my course was also beneficial.
My most memorable moment at UDOL was my module assessment submission days. They were very emotionally charged. Having said that, if I were to describe my time at UDOL with just one word it would be “rewarding”.
My qualification has definitely helped me in my nursing career. I use evidence a lot more discriminately, and have improved my reflectional practice skills and logical thinking.
You’ve got to work very hard but studying with UDOL is definitely worth the money.
